Name Email 1. Describe the application. What is the test objective? What are the data collection objectives? 2. Is a single gauge or indicator/load cell system needed for handheld or integration purposes? Or is a turnkey bench top test system required? 3. How much force or forces are expected? If several force ranges are specified, more than one gauge or load cell may be needed. Any Mark-10 instrument should not be used for less than 10% of its range. 4. Any specific accuracy or resolution requirements? Refer to our data sheets and comparison charts for selection assistance. 5. Any specific measurement requirements, such as integration with a PLC, wanting to measure the average force over a period of time, capturing high speed continuous data, etc? Our series 5 and 7 instruments have some sophisticated functions. 6. Is data collection required? If so, does the customer have their own software or would they like to consider MESURgauge? Note that MESUR Lite is included, but MESURgauge can do graphing, statistical calculations, reporting and more start/stop test triggers. 7. If we are talking about a bench top, turnkey system, note that a typical system consists of the following: a. Test stand b. Test stand options (such as travel measurement, overload protection, cycling, etc.) c. Force gauge d. Upper grip e. Lower grip f. Data collection software g. Connection cables 8. Test stand – manual or motorized? Manual is inexpensive, however, motorized can ensure a consistent rate of speed to comply with various standards. 9. Motorized test stand – usually quote ESM303 (300 lbF max) or ESM1500 (1,500 lbF max). Review options. Typically we suggest at a minimum overload protection option, FollowMe option, and auto return, with connection cable to the gauge. 10. Is distance measurement also required, or only force? 11. How much distance measurement is required? Our systems are not generally recommended for less than 0.25 in. total travel. 12. Sample dimensions? Note the throat depth and clearance of our test stands. Many of our test stands are offered with optional column extensions – they increase clearance but not travel distance. Δ
